The white section of the box panel is embroidered with snowflakes, finishing the Christmas theme of the box. The tartan fabric is appliqued onto the ornaments. A feather cover stitch is used for the raw edges. I used this stitch specifically to give it a more traditional and homemade feel. If you use a loose weave fabric, you might have a few stray threads poking through. I used fleece to back the ornaments as fleece  has a natural stretch and makes turning the ornaments easier. The hanging loops are added after the ornaments are completed.
